I leave for my cruise ship trip tomorrow. I still have to pack, but all my presentations are done, which is the hardest part. I have an inside cabin, which is a bit of a bummer, but it is all paid for, so no complaints. Plus, it will give me some motivation to be out walking on the decks. I am flying to Vancouver and then we sail north. I am looking forward to being out on the water. Last Friday the ship was in here. They had an outbreak of the Norovirus (cramping, vomiting, diarrhea) on that trip. Apparently about 1/10 of the passengers got sick. Luckily it a short lived, 24-hour bug so people recovered quickly. The ship spent extra time in port that day cleaning from top to bottom. So when I get on board it should be virus free, I hope! They have hand sanitizer stations all over the ship and I plan on using them judiciously.
My last car payment was this month! Last week I got the title switched to just my name. It is nice to have paid that off and know that it is mine. It is a good sense of accomplishment.
Last week Phil and I went to Anchorage--he had a dentist appointment. I finally managed to talk him in to buying a love seat. He finds my couch uncomfortable and I don't like always sitting across the room from each other. Phil was set on a Lazy Boy love seat recliner, as he likes his chair so much, but none of them were quite right. What we ended up buying, believe it or not, is an electric love seat! Rather than a handle, it has buttons to run the recliner. I like it because I can actually reach the controls, where as to get to the handles I had to contort around and stretch. Phil likes it because you can stop the recline at any angle--you are not limited to the stops of a standard recliner. The price was actually less than the Lazy Boy recliners and we got a good deal. I am excited to pick it up after I get back from my trip. I've been teasing Phil about our "
electric love" [seat].
A woman I know was out mushroom picking with her partner. They saw bear scat on the trail and the next thing she knew a grizzly bear was on her. She got in the fetal position and didn't move. The bear banged her around a bit, but backed off when her partner picked up a stick and started making noise. The bear had two cubs with her. Luckily, they moved off rather than attack again. She ended up with a bite to the rib cage and some other cuts and bruises, but is okay. They were hiking in an area that seems to have bear encounters a lot. Phil and I DON'T hike there. I am a bit bear wary, but Phil and I make a lot of noise on the trail and are sensible about where we are, so I think we're okay (or so Phil likes to tell me).
